Since 2005, Fred Torres Collaborations has provided not just a project space for artists to be displayed, but also been a management company, collaborating with galleries, museums and artists around the globe. This is clearly not just another Chelsea gallery.

Elana Rubinfeld of Fred Torres Collaborations was kind enough to send me the press release for their next event. The upcoming exhibition will be a photographic painting series by Luca Pizzaroni entitled "Gone with the Wind." Pizzaroni collaborated with anonymous photographers from the 50s to 90s by taking photographs that he has collected for 20 years and manipulating them. Although the collection of thousands of photos did have a subtle narrative, Pizzaroni united them all by placing them face down in oil paint. Some may view this as '˜ruining' a perfectly good photograph; others will see the beauty in experimentation.

Luca Pizzaroni calls this technique "painthography" and said that the series "Gone with the Wind gathers the intimate accidents of genuine novice film photographers from the 1950's to the 1990's, and adds an additional layer of accidental information through strong abstract-expressionistic oil painting and scanning techniques." Profound, isn't it? This will be Pizzaroni's second solo exhibition with this gallery.

Fred Torres Collaborations will display Luca Pizzaroni: "Gone with the Wind" from June 9 to September 2, 2011. An opening reception will be held on June 9 from 6-8p.m.
